HENSOLDT radars protect German cities


Six TRML-4D radars ordered as part of IRIS-T

Taufkirchen/Germany, 12 July 2023 – Sensor specialist HENSOLDT is supplying six high-performance radars to the German Armed Forces as part of Diehl Defence's IRIS-T SLM air defence system. As part of an order from Diehl Defence worth a three-digit million euro sum, the first system is to be delivered to the Bundeswehr next year.


Thomas Müller, CEO of HENSOLDT, said: "This order closes a capability gap of the Bundeswehr and at the same time marks the start of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI). Together with our partners Diehl and Airbus, we are thus strengthening national and alliance defence."


TRML-4D uses the latest digital radar technology. It is capable of detecting, tracking and classifying different types of aerial targets. A focus is on small, fast and low-flying and/or manoeuvring cruise missiles as well as aircraft and helicopters. It ensures the rapid detection and tracking of about 1,500 targets in a radius of up to 250 km. Several systems are under contract to equip the Ukrainian air defence.


The joint solutions of Diehl Defence, Airbus and HENSOLDT are fully compatible with NATO's integrated air defence architecture and have proven their interoperability.


HENSOLDT has decades of experience in air defence radar systems and actively drives the further development of key technologies in this field. In addition to the TRML-4D multifunction radar, the company's portfolio also includes the Twinvis passive radar, the Spexer product family and radars for securing ship and air traffic. HENSOLDT supplies radars for the German Navy's new frigates and corvettes, for surveillance of German airspace and for approach control at Bundeswehr airfields, among others.

Taufkirchen/Germany, 1 August 2023 – Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT is taking the development of its collision warning system for civil and military drones to a new level. The demonstrator study for a "detect-and-avoid radar" – commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) – enables a further step towards the safe integration of drones into controlled airspace.


The German customer has drawn up requirements for an investigation into the implementation of a gradual and full-scale airspace integration of the EURODRONE. For this, a DAA system is foreseeably necessary, which is to be advanced in a gradual series development.


In the run-up to this future development of a DAA system, HENSOLDT - as a long-standing partner of the German Armed Forces in the field of radar technology – has carried out risk-minimising national and European studies regarding the conception and design of a special radar sensor system for such a DAA system. The flight test campaigns carried out and the results obtained in the course of these studies in preparation for development are already proving the functional capability.


The "detect-and-avoid radar" is one of the decisive sensors in a complex DAA system on board unmanned aerial vehicles. It supports the calculation of evasive manoeuvres for collision avoidance by detecting, classifying and forming complete tracks of approaching objects in the airspace. Due to the multifunctional design of this radar, the requirements for integrating a weather radar function will also be taken into account and a possible perspective regarding the support of a separate landing aid will be opened up.


The currently commissioned study for the DAA radar includes the investigation of the technical feasibility of such a radar for the EURODRONE project, the verification with a near-series demonstrator as well as the risk minimisation for a future series development. Since the novel "detect-and-avoid radar" is a flight- and mission-critical component, the study deals in particular with the implementation of the safety requirements and the approval strategy at national and international aviation safety authorities (EASA, LBA) as well as the military organisations (LufABw).

HENSOLDT passive radar available as deployable variant


Ulm/Germany, 4 August 2023 – Sensor solution provider HENSOLDT has developed a new version of its "Twinvis" passive radar, which is now being launched in a fully integrated shelter variant for military use as "Twinvis Military Sheltered". So far, "Twinvis" has been available as a set-up kit for integration by the customer. A specially established production line at the German HENSOLDT site in Ulm enables the prompt call-off of systems in order to meet the requirements of existing and interested customers at short notice.


"Twinvis" is a passive radar based on the latest digital technology that can be used in long-range military airspace surveillance or, in the medium term, in civil air traffic control. A passive radar acts purely as a receiver, i.e. it does not transmit itself, and locates targets by evaluating reflected signals from existing third-party transmitters.


"Our fully automated, intelligent signal processing and sensor data fusion opens up an unprecedented possibility for armed forces to conduct covert operations at long range for a wide range of targets up to and including stealth threats. The 'Twinvis' is highly mobile and networkable in real time for this purpose. And it can do so either as an autonomously operating cluster of several distributed passive radars or paired with powerful air defence systems with active radar sensors," says Markus Rothmaier, Head of Naval & Ground Radars at HENSOLDT.


The “Twinvis Sheltered” can be flexibly and easily deployed on military carrier vehicles and set up and dismantled in the field by just two people. A self-sufficient operation is possible, even without personnel on-site if required. The system has a high-performance antenna unit as well as processor and infrastructure components. The modular system architecture enables, among other things, the processing of multiple digital frequency bands, which offers procurers and users growth potential and the ability to plan incremental upgrades for the future. Several systems are under contract with customers inside and outside NATO.

HENSOLDT partners with Starburst for FCAS start-up accelerator



Taufkirchen/Germany, 22 August 2023 –HENSOLDT Ventures and Starburst are pleased to announce the launch of their FCAS accelerator. The programme invites start-ups from NATO and allied countries to propose ideas for highly disruptive sensors. The objective of the accelerator is to create an ecosystem targeted to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) as well as start-ups to develop dual-use and defence applications for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).

The Future Combat Air System is essential for European air sovereignty. The system of systems is to be developed by 2040 and includes a next generation fighter jet operating jointly with drones and remote carriers that will be connected through a combat cloud. Together with its German, French and Spanish partner companies HENSOLDT entered the development of next generation sensor solutions in the current technology development phase of the programme.


The acceleration programme focuses on five technology themes: Disruptive Sensors, Enabling AI, 3D Printed Electronics, Electronic Materials & Components and Innovative RF Technologies. After the application period, selected start-ups will be invited to participate in a bootcamp with HENSOLDT Ventures and Starburst to further develop their solutions until the end of the year. The Bootcamp will offer the start-ups the opportunity to explore a Proof-of-concept with HENSOLDT under the FCAS program, participation in dedicated workshops on topics like Business Acceleration, Dual-Use Ecosystem Discovery and Investor Landscape tailored for the defence sector as well as support by a Starburst account manager during the program. The most promising solutions will be selected for succeeding implementation projects within FCAS.

HENSOLDT and ERA announce Strategic Collaboration for Passive Advanced Air-Surveillance and Air-Defence Solutions


Ulm/Germany, Pardubice/Czech Republic, 30 August 2023 – Sensor solution provider HENSOLDT and ERA, a pioneering company specializing in Air Traffic Control (ATC) and passive surveillance systems for air surveillance, air defence and electronic warfare, announced their strategic partnership to drive the advancement of air surveillance and defence capabilities. This collaboration is a response to the insights gained from recent conflicts in Europe, emphasizing the need for cutting-edge technologies to enhance national and European security.


The primary objective of this partnership is to jointly offer the Passive Surveillance System VERA-NG to the German Luftwaffe. HENSOLDT and ERA will leverage their expertise to develop an integrated infrastructure solution that can be used the state-of-the-art VERA-NG system and HENSOLDT Passive Radar Twinvis technology. While the VERA-NG is designed to detect active emissions from targets of interest at long range, targets do not have to emit signals for the passive radar Twinvis at a shorter range. Through this combination, a completely passive airpicture can be created. This synergistic approach will provide an unprecedented level of passive surveillance capability, contributing significantly to future air surveillance and air defence systems.

With more complex combat situations and the associated increase in combat value of armoured vehicles with optical, optronic and radar sensors, the volume of data to be analysed also increases. In order to avoid information overkill, HENSOLDT has an innovative solution in its portfolio with “Ceretron”. The sensor suite combines sensors, merges their data streams, evaluates them in real time, processes them and provides the vehicle crew and the entire battle group with an AI-supported operational picture. In this way, military-relevant information is provided automatically on an ad hoc basis. In this way, decisions can be made even faster and more intelligently in the future.

HENSOLDT supplies power amplifiers for NATO data link

Taufkirchen/Germany, 13 September 2023 - The sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT has received a follow-up order from the American L3Harris (formerly Viasat) for the delivery of high-performance electronics that will optimise NATO data links and thus the networking of individual troop units. The contract, worth a high single-digit million amount, covers the manufacture and delivery of a further 100 power amplifiers for the MIDS LVT (Multifunctional Information Distribution System, Low Volume Terminal) data radio system of the US and European NATO troops of all branches of the armed forces. Since the first order in 2003, HENSOLDT has thus supplied approximately 4,500 power amplifiers for the MIDS programme.


"The power amplifiers are among the performance-determining components of every data link," says Thomas Altwasser, Programme Manager at HENSOLDT. "This tenth order in a row is a confirmation of our reliability as well as our technological competence in this sensitive area."


MIDS is a Link-16 communication system with high-performance and interference-resistant digital links for the exchange of tactical information (data and voice) between NATO aircraft, ships, and ground stations. Thus, MIDS ensures interoperability and enables cross-force missions. The power amplifier must guarantee high transmission power in a small installation space and at the same time the highest possible reception sensitivity. HENSOLDT also supplies similar electronic components to the European EuroMIDS consortium consisting of INDRA, Leonardo, Thales and HENSOLDT.

HENSOLDT delivers first flight unit for earth observation satellite to OHB

Oberkochen/Germany, 22 September 2023 – The satellite is built by OHB and will provide images with an extremely high level of detail. The main component is a large telescope. For this optical system, HENSOLDT is constructing a total of four mirrors of different sizes. The mirrors are made of Zerodur, a glass ceramic with very low thermal expansion.


After the largest mirror was light weighted at Schott for more than half a year, it was polished at Zeiss for more than a year and interferometrically measured at HENSOLDT more than 50 times to achieve the required accuracy in the nanometer range. For comparison: a hair has a diameter of about 100µm, which is 1000 times more than the required and achieved height differences on the mirror surface.


For HENSOLDT, achieving this size with this accuracy is a first. There are very few companies in the world capable of manufacturing such mirrors. It requires an end-to-end understanding of the relationships between prediction, manufacturing and measurement, which has been refined during the manufacturing process. To prove that the mirror assemblies survive the challenging environmental conditions of rocket launch and operation unscathed, HENSOLDT conducted numerous tests for vibration, shock, thermal stress and high-energy radiation.


Since 2019, a total of five units of these mirrors have been developed, manufactured, assembled and tested, three of which are flight units. The unit for the telescope tests was already delivered in October 2020 and successfully tested in OHB's instrument.

Follow-on contract to equip “Legend” class National Security Cutters


Ulm/Germany 25 September 2023 – Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT is equipping the US Coast Guard’s “Legend” class National Security Cutter (NSC) with its proven TRS-3D multi-mode naval radar. The US Coast Guard awarded HENSOLDT a follow-on contract worth approximately 10 Mio. $ to deliver a further radar in its latest ‘Baseline D’ version to be installed at the Coast Guard training center (TRACEN), Petaluma/CA. Up to now, HENSOLDT has delivered 12 radars to the US Coast Guard’s NSC program.


“With more than 50 radars in service with Coast Guards and Navies worldwide, our TRS-3D naval radar has proven itself”, HENSOLDT CEO Thomas Müller says. “We are making sure that our customers capitalize on continuous technology enhancements.”


The TRS-3D Baseline D, with the US designation AN/SPS-75, utilizes gallium nitride (GaN) and solid-state emitter technology to deliver traditional TRS-3D robust performance while improving reliability and options for future development. HENSOLDT’s TRS-3D radars have been aboard every NSC since the program’s inception. TRS-3D is a three-dimensional, multi-mode naval radar for air and surface surveillance, target acquisition, self-defense, gunfire support and aircraft control. It automatically detects and tracks all types of air and sea targets, alleviating crew workload requirements.

HENSOLDT and Airdyne join forces for mission aircraft retrofit

Orlando/Florida 23 October 2023 – Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT joins forces with U.S. mission aircraft supplier Airdyne Aerospace Inc., Brooksville/FL, to jointly offer an integrated and certified mission suite, in a first step specifically for C-130 mission aircraft. On September 20, 2023, both companies signed a MoU to set up the details of their relationship. The mission suite combines HENSOLDT’s “MissionGrid” portfolio of different sensors and mission management systems and Airdyne’s SABIR System which is a system of individual “bolt-on” modular components that can be configured in several ways to support various missions, aircraft configurations, and other customer-specific requirements.


“HENSOLDT has a long-standing track record of providing a variety of sensors for ISR missions as well as mission management systems and mission avionics”, said Steffen Kolditz, Head of Airborne Solution Business Unit at HENSOLDT. “Therefore, Airdyne with its versatile SABIR system is the ideal partner to jointly offer an exportable mission package to C-130 customers worldwide with very low integration risks for the end-user”.


HENSOLDT’s MissionGrid consists of building blocks such as airborne radar, COMINT and ELINT sensors, electro-optical sensors and mission computers which are pre-integrated and tested at their own premises. This results in significant advantages for the customer, such as reduced technical risk or shortened integration times. It can be used on fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition to military air and naval missions, it is used for border protection, search and rescue, maritime patrol and law enforcement.


Airdyne’s SABIR System is a modular open architecture set of mounting components including Doors, Robotic Struts, Mission Pods, Workstations, Avionics Racks, Crashworthy Seats, Power Modules and more. SABIR mission systems accommodates thousands of sensor/communication configurations and many different pod designs – either independently developed or created by Airdyne. SABIR supports a wide range of missions such as full spectrum military operations, maritime patrol, search and rescue, surveillance, C5ISR, CBRNE, crisis response, command and control, and even scientific and environmental research. Calais, Toulouse/France, 23 October 2023 – HENSOLDT Nexeya France is supplying the LYNCEA® combat system to the French Navy's Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV).


Following the delivery at the end of 2022 of the ‘Auguste Bénébig’, the first OPV ordered by the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA), the SOCARENAM shipyard and the French Navy held in Calais the christening ceremony for the ‘Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai’, the second of the six OPVs ordered by the DGA and which will be based in Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. The six OPVs will be directly involved in defending the interests of the French State in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) overseas.


HENSOLDT Nexeya France involved in this project as a supplier of the LYNCEA® combat system, which provides a tactical situation integrating data merged from the ship's various sensors (IFF, radar, EOTS observation camera, ship inertial unit, etc.) and effectors (FCS, Canon). To enhance the patrol vessel's mission system, the HENSOLDT group has supplied two sensors: the SHARPEYE MK11 surveillance radar from HENSOLDT UK and the IFF MSSR2000 encrypted interrogator from HENSOLDT AG.


A wireless version of the mission system has also been installed using the LYNCEA® Mobile solution. This enables the marine riflemen on board the RHIBs to access the same tactical situation as the ship's crew on a mobile tablet, and to share with them an audio/video stream of the operation in real time. A real asset for decision-making in operations.

Installation of the solution on board the ‘Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai’ was carried out by HENSOLDT Nexeya France employees in Boulogne-sur-Mer over the last few months, followed in October by trials alongside the quayside (HAT) and at sea (SAT).

FCAS Accelerator Bootcamp successfully launched


Start-ups work with HENSOLDT and Starburst as well as specially selected mentors

Taufkirchen/Germany, 26 October 2023 – This week, sensor specialist HENSOLDT invited the nine start-up companies selected for the FCAS accelerator to the kick-off event of the associated bootcamp in Taufkirchen, Germany, at HENSOLDT Ventures. HENSOLDT's Chief Strategy Officer Celia Pelaz opened the two-day event. In her speech, she particularly addressed the fact that the FCAS accelerator represents a paradigm shift in defence innovation management.


Other keynote speakers included Emmanuel Thome, CPT program manager for the Next Generation Weapon System as part of FCAS, Christopher Wagener of the German Federal Agency for Equipment, Information, Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), and Margot McDonell and Chris Gillian representing the NATO accelerator DIANA. The bootcamp, which now runs through December 2023, promises to be a dynamic and educational experience for all participants and is another step toward innovation for FCAS.


“We have laid the foundations for an exciting bootcamp here. We have selected the start-up companies that we consider particularly promising to participate,” said Head of HENSOLDT Ventures Moritz Pichler.


The event had the clear intention of presenting the bootcamp's comprehensive programme and giving the representatives of the participating companies the opportunity to network intensively with each other as well as with the organisers HENSOLDT and Starburst. The presentations offered valuable insights into the world of start-ups and entrepreneurship in the security and defence industry. Of course, the discussions were focused on FCAS and its elements but also on the dual-use ecosystem to be created and go-to-market strategies.

HENSOLDT presents its broad range of innovative sensor technologies at Dubai Airshow 2023


Dubai, 13 November 2023 – HENSOLDT is showcasing its portfolio of sensor technologies at the Dubai Airshow 2023. Visitors are invited to experience the future of defence innovation at booth number 735.


This year's exhibit highlights HENSOLDT's latest advancements, including the land passive radar systems and the TRML-4D, HENSOLDT's robust land radar system, which have demonstrated their strategic importance in current conflict zones such as Ukraine. The ARGOS series is reaching new heights with the introduction of Argos 8, specifically engineered for UAV applications, reflecting HENSOLDT's agility in meeting the diverse needs of modern surveillance.


The domain of protection systems is experiencing a significant transformation as the AMPS and MILDS Block 2 establish new standards in threat detection and countermeasures. HENSOLDT's ground-based surveillance is revolutionized with the introduction of the Spexer 600 and NightOwl M camera – two state-of-the-art technologies that redefine monitoring capabilities. The Spexer 600, a compact AESA X-band radar, boasts exceptional surveillance performance across various applications, both in defence and civilian domains, allowing easy integration on various platforms. Meanwhile, the NightOwl camera, tailored for long-range and medium observation, offers a seamless blend of wide and narrow field views, ensuring detailed identification without compromising on area coverage.

HENSOLDT integrates NH90 and TIGER helicopters into modern data link network for "Timber Express 2023"

Immenstaad, 13 November 2023 – As part of the German Armed Forces' "Timber Express 2023" exercise, sensor solution provider HENSOLDT has connected several flying platforms via data link and networked them with modern information systems. Using the EUA OPTARION mission support system, situational information could be reliably communicated between the NH90 and TIGER helicopters and other platforms such as the Tornado multi-role combat aircraft and the 2000 self-propelled howitzer without any changes to the aircraft. For the first time, the data was also continuously synchronised with the Bundeswehr's new command information system.


"With the mission support system, we are able to integrate both existing and new platforms into the armed forces' digital command and control network without any changes to the aircraft," says Alex Irmscher, programme manager for ground stations at HENSOLDT. "We are working continuously with the Army Air Corps and the German Air Force to further advance command and control capabilities in the area of airborne systems and anchor them operationally alongside exercises."


The advantages that the EUA OPTARION offers its users were successfully demonstrated for the third time as part of "Timber Express 2023". As a link between reconnaissance and operational elements, relevant data could be communicated digitally along the sensor-to-effector chain. This interaction forms the basis for efficient command and control and the deployment of armed forces in an interoperable information and communication network.

PEGASUS SIGINT system picks up speed


Sensor solution provider HENSOLDT receives green light for system design

Taufkirchen/Germany, 16 November 2023 - The PEGASUS signal intelligence (SIGINT) system is now entering the implementation phase with the design developed by sensor solution provider HENSOLDT. The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has approved one of the most important project milestones - the so-called Critical Design Review (CDR) - and thus given the green light for the implementation of the system design.


In the CDR, representatives of the Bundeswehr, both from the public customer and the future user, examined the design of the SIGINT components of the PEGASUS weapon system. In a large number of individual presentations, the customer was given a detailed presentation of the implementation planning for its extensive requirements. At the same time, the progress of the overall project was communicated in various software and hardware demonstrations.


Subsequently, the subcontractor Lufthansa Technik, Hamburg, gave an impressive presentation on the planned integration of the resulting reconnaissance system into the aircraft and the associated conversion measures.


Jürgen Halder, Vice President Airborne SIGINT at HENSOLDT, said: "The close cooperation between the Bundeswehr and HENSOLDT since the beginning of the project activities guaranteed that the presented design was widely accepted. The underlying reconnaissance solution "KALAETRON Integral" offers a globally unique, high-performance reconnaissance capability based on powerful German key technology.”


Two years ago, HENSOLDT was awarded the contract to supply an airborne system for electronic signals intelligence on board Bombardier business jets based on its SIGINT system "Kalætron Integral". The order is worth over one billion euros. HENSOLDT is acting as general contractor and bears overall responsibility for the realisation of the project. Lufthansa Technik, based in Hamburg, will act as a subcontractor, procuring the aircraft from the manufacturer Bombardier, including their modification, as well as fitting and integrating the reconnaissance system developed by HENSOLDT into the aircraft. In total, almost 30 companies, including many SMEs, from all over Germany are involved in the project as suppliers and partners.

HENSOLDT develops jamming system to protect naval vessels together with Israeli partner RAFAEL

"Kalaetron Attack" and "Digital Shark" neutralize radar-guided threats

Taufkirchen/Germany, 27 November 2023 - Sensor solution provider HENSOLDT is further developing its "Kalaetron Attack" jamming system for use on board naval vessels. The fully digital system has proven to be very effective in neutralizing air defence radars in several test campaigns. Now HENSOLDT is using the knowledge gained from land and airborne tests to develop a capability for the electronic protection of naval vessels. To this end, HENSOLDT has entered into a cooperation with RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd, Haifa/Israel. Together, the partners initially want to offer an electronic countermeasures (ECM) system for naval vessels in Germany, which is based on the Digital Shark ECM system and a decoy system (C-GEM) from RAFAEL.


"Radar-guided weapons pose a major threat to naval vessels at sea as well as on land and in the air," says Roland Castor, Head of Airborne Electronic Warfare at HENSOLDT. "We are using the knowledge we have gained from the development of Kalaetron Attack to offer the German Navy a solution to close the capability gap in the self-protection of its ships."


The Kalaetron Attack jamming system is part of HENSOLDT's fully digital 'Kalaetron' product family, which is used in various forms in self-protection and signal intelligence systems by the German Armed Forces. In addition to cognitive elements of artificial intelligence, the core components are a fully digitized, broadband sensor and an electronically controllable jammer. This enables a broad spectrum of threats to be detected quickly and countered with pinpoint accuracy.

HENSOLDT supports BAE Systems to develop Striker® II fighter-pilot helmet for the UK Royal Air Force


Irene, South Africa, 28 November 2023 – In a strategic collaboration, HENSOLDT will work with BAE Systems in a contract awarded by the UK Ministry of Defence. This contract centres on the development of the Striker ® II helmet-mounted display for the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon fleet. Building upon a history of successful collaboration and the development of Striker I, HENSOLDT South Africa will supply the advanced optic sensors for the helmet and will be responsible for the development of its intelligent tracking system.

Developed at BAE Systems in Rochester, UK, the Striker II is one of the world’s most advanced fighter pilot helmets, which uses the latest technologies to integrate its all-digital night vision system and daylight-readable colour display. At its core lies the optical helmet tracking system developed by HENSOLDT’s Optronics business in South Africa.


While HENSOLDT’s advanced optic sensors will be used in the helmet, HENSOLDT will also be developing the system’s inertial storage driver unit (ISDU), the electronic component that provides the helmet’s ‘intelligence’. This integral component employs sophisticated algorithms to convert data gathered from the helmet's sensors, the aircraft, navigational data and information about the aircraft’s surroundings into intelligible symbology that is displayed on the pilot’s visor. This real-time situational awareness empowers pilots to make swift, informed decisions, elevating their tactical advantage.


This contract heralds the evolution of Striker II from its predecessor, Striker I, developed by BAE Systems, and supported by HENSOLDT in a collaboration spanning over twenty years. “HENSOLDT is proud to bolster BAE Systems’ efforts to ensure that the Striker's capabilities remain at the forefront of innovation,” says Deon Olivier, Chief Executive of HENSOLDT’s Optronics’ business in South Africa.


Striker II represents a paradigm shift as a fully digital solution, offering today's combat pilots unparalleled night vision and target tracking capabilities within a seamlessly integrated visor-projected helmet system. Striker II transforms the pilot's helmet visor into an augmented reality interface, overlaying mission-critical data onto the real-world environment. HENSOLDT's advanced helmet tracking technology precisely identifies the pilot's focal point, facilitating tasks like real-time data display on the helmet visor. This not only enhances situational awareness in the cockpit, but also addresses the critical need to mitigate sensory overload in the high-tech, fast-paced environment of modern aerial combat. The Striker II is poised to revolutionise situational awareness for Royal Air Force Typhoon pilots, ensuring their safety in the ever-evolving and contested airspace.


With BAE Systems’ contract from the UK Ministry of Defence valued at £40 million, HENSOLDT’s involvement in the project is set to generate substantial foreign direct investment for South Africa, while simultaneously supporting a significant number of highly skilled jobs at HENSOLDT's Irene site in South Africa, where 400 employees are employed. Operations at this site focus on the design, development, and manufacturing of optical, optronic, and precision-engineered products tailored for monitoring, identification, classification and targeting purposes.

HENSOLDT Optronics celebrates topping-out ceremony in Oberkochen

Further milestone reached for future-oriented new building


Oberkochen (Germany), 1 December 2023 – Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT today celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its new plant in Oberkochen. With the new building, the HENSOLDT Group is responding to the constantly growing demand for high-performance military equipment for the German Armed Forces and NATO members and to the ever-increasing demand from the semiconductor industry, which purchases high-precision optronic measuring devices from HENSOLDT Optronics. The company plans to move into the new site in 2025.


“Our customers not only rely on our technologies, but also on our commitment, our reliability and our innovative strength. They rely on us to make a tireless contribution to safety”, said HENSOLDT CEO Thomas Müller.


Using geothermal probes, heat pumps and photovoltaic systems on the roof, the new site will achieve a degree of self-sufficiency of 70 per cent and meet the “KfW 40” standard. With the energy concept, HENSOLDT is aiming for sustainability certification from a renowned institute. The investment in the new building is in the low three-digit million range. The interior design follows the “New Work” principle and is adapted to the current working environment. HENSOLDT's future-oriented design promotes the individual and organisational success of its employees.
