The IDF spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Hidai Zilberman, said Tuesday regarding the strike on Syria attributed to Israel Monday night, "The Israel Defense Forces has an interest and strategic goals on the northern front, and we are doing everything necessary to achieve our targets."

In a converastion with Army Radio, Zilberman refused to address the identity of the two soldiers said to be killed in the airstrike by Syrian state media. "I don't want to go into specifics," he said. "It is certain and well-established that the Israeli army works day and night to assure our strategic goals on the northern front are properly achieved." Zilberman added, "We will make every evert to thwart Hezbollah's attempts to harm us."

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Tuesday morning that 10 fighters were killed in an Israeli strike south of Damascus, seven of which were members of Iran- and Hezbollah-backed militias.

Syrian media had reported Monday that two soldiers were killed in the strike, and seven additional soldiers were wounded. State media network SANA later reported that a woman was killed in Al-Hijana, south-east of Damascus, and her husband was wounded.

A Syrian Defense Ministry official said Israel's military fired missiles Monday night on areas south of Damascus. The unnamed official, who was quoted by state media, said that Syrian air defenses shot down most of the missiles before they hit their targets.

The official said the missiles were fired from the Golan Heights. The missile attack started at 10:40 P.M. Residents of the capital Damascus said they heard explosions south of the city.

Last month, the Israeli army said they had attacked a cell of four people attempting to lay an explosive charge at the Syria-Israel border. According to the army, soldiers and aircraft fired toward the four. The Israeli army assessed that they had been killed. No Israeli soldiers were hurt.
