I live in Colorado and one of my best friends is Numan Dogan (North Carolina). We met while we both were teaching at Washington State U., where Ismail Demir used to be an M.E. student. Numan and I still visit each other with family and talk a lot about MENA politics.
The 4 Sunni madhhabs are Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali. These schools recognize each other's validity and they have interacted in legal debate over the centuries.
- Sufism is a Spiritualism tradition embedded within Sunni Islam.
-On the other hand, Shi'a is a Bid3a (Innovation in a negative and unacceptable sense) while Wahhabism is an unacceptable aberration.
Ethnicities that had settled in Algeria prior to the Islamic conquests
Numidians (Berbers original inhabitants of Algeria), Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Vandals, Vikings, Phoenicians
Ethnicities that had settled in Algeria after the Islamic conquests
Spaniards, Ottomans, French
The Islamic conquest brought Islam and the Arabic language to all of North Africa that was already inhabited mainly by Berbers. North Africa has a variety of ethnic constituencies. Mideast Arabs now claiming that North Africa is "Arab" is just a fallacy of history.
Islam brought the Arabic language to North Africa, but the number of Arabs who came to North Africa back then was relatively much smaller than the number of native Berbers. In my estimation, there are more Ottoman descendants in Algeria than there are Arabs descendants.
Of course north africans are not arabs they are just arab speakers still arabs are part of the history of north africa I mean i critise arabs a lot. I agree arabs of north africa are also different from the arabs from the levant and the gulf. Have been for centuries.
They usually intermarried with the amazigh and have now became part of the north africa rather than the middle east or the gulf.
